Li. " ,t ; 4' 7 THE FREE PRESS. QsV0L.-4.no. 6. b.d. oslin, editor. SOUTHERN PINES, N. C, DECEMBER 13, 1901. $1.00 PER YEAR. on J f J V Southern Pines Sanitarium. RECTAL DISEASE. There are but few people in civilized life who reach middle age without suffering from some disorder of the rectum, and with many the suffering is not for days or weeks, but for years. It has been a reproach to the medical profession that all they could offer the patient was a knife or some useless ointment It is in these d senses that electricity has achieved some of its greatest triumphs. Certain, safe and practically painless is the electric treatment for piles or hemorrhoids, whether in-' ternal or external, blind or bleeding. . NOT EVEN EARACHE Or toothache can torture its victim with more agonizing pain than does a small rectal fissure, and vet it yields readily to our treat ment. Modern medicine now looks on a diseased rectum as a veritable Pandora box of evils. 'I hrough its relation to the great sympathetic nervous system, a diseased rectum profoundly affects parts far distant, and numerous obscure diseases have been cured through clues thus obtained. IN FACT, A new school of medicine has arisen who would cure every ill that man is heir to by treating the rectum and other orifices of the body. Such 4- y- 1 extremism is absurd, but when reputable physicians advocate such a the Cy ory there must be some merit in their claims. They are styled "Orificial Mirgeons," but all they claim to do by surgical measures is here accom .p pliahed by the more rational electricity and dilatation. A most important factor between the two methods is that surgical treatment requires from one to three weeks in bed, while our treatment does not even keep a patient from his daily duties. address EDWIN GLADMON, M.
